This morning dawned bright and sunny, unfortunately the good cheer was not destined to last and my morning descended sharply into depression along with the rest of the country.
Today is day 1 of the recession in Ireland, according to the ESRI on RTE Radio 1's Morning Ireland. There is nothing like the Quarterly Economic Commentary first thing in the morning, before even having breakfast, to completely stop you in your tracks. Forget the sunshine, we are in the gloom and it's official ..... downward revisions continue, the economy is retracting, GNP and GDP falling by .4 percent all equals Ireland in recession for the first time since 1983. If you want to read more and join in our merry depression here on the Rock, then read all about it at the Economic and Social Research Institute.
There is such clapping of backs with glee at the R word, some so delighted at the news good manners have completely deserted them as they repeatedly pontificate "we told you so". God, what a pity that lot didn't emigrate in the 80's.
Naturally the good times couldn't continue, or could they?
